Having a regulated nervous system is a hallmark of good mental and physical health.
Trauma keeps a person’s nervous system in survival mode, though, leading to difficulty with emotional regulation and chronic health conditions. In this training, you will learn how your client’s nervous system responds to perceptions of threat and how to help them bring completion to unresolved trauma.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
-
Describe the structure and function of the nervous system, including the autonomic nervous system and its sympathetic and parasympathetic branches.
-
Explain how early developmental experiences and trauma shape nervous system functioning and influence patterns of activation and regulation.
-
Identify the threat response cycle and differentiate between common survival responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn, and shutdown).
-
Analyze the role of perception and subconscious programming in triggering nervous system responses.
-
Recognize the signs and consequences of incomplete threat responses, including their impact on health, relationships, and behavior.
-
Apply nervous system regulation strategies to support clients in returning to a state of safety and balance.
-
Guide clients through completing unresolved threat responses using somatic and imaginal techniques.
-
Demonstrate specific tools and techniques (e.g., orienting, breathwork, touch, movement, VOO breathing, vagus nerve toning) to promote regulation and resilience.
