Shadow Work for Cycle Breakers: How to Heal from Self-Abandonment

We all have parts of ourselves we reject.

Maybe you don’t like how you can feel jealous or angry. You might feel ashamed when you think you are being selfish, shy, or when you talk too much. We not only dis-own the not so pretty parts of our humanness, but we also deny our power, brilliance, and talents.

Why do we do this? Whatever you reject about yourself now is what you didn’t feel safe to express in childhood. You abandon in yourself what you needed to in order to feel safer in your family. Let’s unpack this together in this class so you can learn how to embrace all parts of you.

In this class you will:

  • Identify ways you learned to hide or reject parts of yourself in childhood.

  • Notice how triggers, resentments, and projections reveal shadow aspects.

  • Use journaling prompts to uncover rejected traits.

  • Practice creative exercises such as “humanizing the shadow” to give voice and form to disowned parts.

  • Engage in self-compassion to soften judgment toward yourself.

  • Reframe once-rejected traits as adaptive or valuable qualities.
