You know you need to set a boundary. But then you start thinking about how the other person might react. You worry they'll be hurt, angry, or disappointed. You start imagining an awkward conversation or wonder if you're being selfish or unreasonable.

So, you explain a little more, give a little more, say yes when you mean no, and begin internally simmering with anger.

Or maybe you've gone the other direction: you've learned to protect yourself by shutting down, withdrawing, becoming rigid, ghosting, or keeping people at a distance.

Either way, this isn't really about learning the perfect words to say. It's about understanding why being fully yourself can feel unsafe in relationship with other people.

And that's what we're going to work on in Better Boundaries!

In this class, we'll explore:

  • Why setting boundaries can feel threatening, even when you know intellectually
    that they're healthy.
  • The many ways fawning and people-pleasing show up in relationships.
  • The relational threats that make setting boundaries difficult.
  • How the nervous system influences our ability to set and hold boundaries.
  • The emotional and relational costs of chronic people-pleasing and over-functioning.
  • How to receive someone else's boundary without collapsing, retaliating, or taking it personally.
  • Practices of self-reclamation that help you reconnect with your needs, preferences, voice, and power.

This class is for you if:

  • You know what you want to say but can't make yourself say it.
  • You over-explain your decisions.
  • You say yes and immediately resent it.
  • You're hyperaware of other people's moods.
  • Someone being disappointed in you feels almost unbearable.
  • You take responsibility for making everyone okay.
  • You give too much and then wonder why nobody gives back.
  • Or you've gotten so tired of being hurt that you've gone the opposite direction - and walls have started masquerading as boundaries.

This isn't just a lecture.

We'll use journaling, reflection and experiential nervous-system practices to begin changing your relationship with boundaries. This makes the material user friendly for both therapists and others interested in personal growth.

Mental health professionals will be invited to examine their own relationship with boundaries while learning concepts and experiential practices they can bring into clinical work. Experiencing the material personally can deepen therapists' understanding of the fear, attachment dynamics, and nervous-system responses that often make boundary-setting difficult for clients.

Eligible mental-health professionals who meet the attendance requirements may receive 2 CE hours.

A recording will be provided for those who can't attend live. CE credit is available only to eligible professionals who attend the live training and meet all CE completion requirements.
